Questions.
Before you book
Do you do consultations?
Yes. If you’d like to consult with a specific artist, reach out to them directly. If you’re not sure who you’d like to work with, stop by the shop during normal business hours for a consultation.
Meet the artistsDo you take deposits?
Yes. A $100 deposit holds your appointment. You’ll get a payment link to pay it, and the deposit comes off the price of your tattoo. Deposits are non-refundable. Booking with Nick or Tim? Their deposits are handled through Porter.
Is there a minimum?
Yes. Our shop minimum is $100–$150, depending on the placement of the tattoo.
Getting ready
How should I prepare for my appointment?
Get a good night’s sleep, eat a proper meal and drink plenty of water before you come in. Don’t drink alcohol before your appointment. Arrive 15 minutes early and bring a government-issued ID.
You’re welcome to bring headphones and a small snack, and wear something that makes the placement easy to reach. Only the person getting tattooed is allowed in the work area; that’s a DC Health Department rule.
How old do I need to be?
You must be 18 or older to get tattooed.
How can I pay?
We take cash, Apple Pay and all major credit cards.
On the day
What should I expect during my appointment?
When you arrive, you’ll fill out a release form and show your ID. Your artist will go over the design and placement with you and put on a stencil so you can check it out; small changes can be made before anything starts. You can take a break whenever you need one.
Payment is taken at the end of the session (per session for larger pieces), and tips aren’t included. Before you leave, you’ll get your aftercare instructions in print and in person; they’re also on our Aftercare page.
Do you do piercings?
No. We only do tattoos.
Fine line
How small can a fine line tattoo be?
It depends on the design. We’ve done a lot of fine line work, and we’ll always be upfront if we think something is too small to tattoo well or to age properly.
How does fine line age?
Well, as long as it’s done with the right line weight for its size. Because the lines are delicate, there’s always more chance they won’t hold in the skin as well as a big, bold traditional tattoo. That’s why we talk through the design in depth beforehand, so you and your artist are on the same page.
Changing your plans
How do I reschedule or cancel?
Call the shop at (202) 808-9974 at least 24 hours before your appointment. With 24 hours’ notice you can reschedule, up to 2 times. Deposits are non-refundable, so cancelling, or rescheduling with less than 24 hours’ notice, means losing your deposit. If your artist needs to reschedule, we’ll reach out as soon as possible.
Walk-ins
No appointment needed. Hours, what to expect and the walk-in FAQ are on their own page.
